Tamaki College Reflection

Tamaki College Reflections

On Tuesday the 27th of April 2015 the year eights of the Tamaki cluster went to Tamaki College to see what it feels  like in college. These schools attended at Tamaki College
  • Pt England
  • Panmure Bridge
  • Glenbrae School
  • Tamaki Primary
  • Glen Innes Primary
  • St X Pius
  • Ruapotaka
and some Year 9 and 13 students of Tamaki College. When we first arrived at Tamaki College my friends and I thought that there was nothing. A few minutes after everybody went in to the auditorium. There were not many students there when we went inside. Once all the schools were there we went up and looked for our name tag. After, Ms Moore told us about the three letters on our name tag. They were for each house
  • Kowhai (Yellow)
  • Puriri (Blue)
  • Rata (Red)
  • Totara (Green)
the letters were
  • K mn
  • K sh
  • P em
  • P ro
  • T rd
and I can’t remember the rest. Next we split up into our groups, I was in K sh. In our group we had 4 leaders and their names were Francis, Wendy, Enosi and Tyler.

Our groups first class was Social Studies and our teacher was Ms Robertson. In social studies we had and Ice breaker and it was going around and asking people questions and putting their name in the questions. Next we went and did a quiz but our forty minutes were up so then we had to move to the next class.

Next we went to Mrs Tu'ipulotu class and her class is food tech. In food tech we had to partner up and my partner was Sela from Pt England. Sela and I were at the end of the class on table seven. Mrs Tu'ipulotu told us to wash our hands and grab an apron. After she told us her rules in her classroom. There were ingredients on the table and all we had to do was to mix it, then put flour on our hands, next we had to roll it up and then squash it and put in onto the dish. When we finished it we put it into the oven for 10 minutes. When 10 minutes was up we got it out and put it into paper bags. When Mrs Tu’ipulotu dismissed us we went straight to the auditorium for interval.

After interval we went straight to Mr Stevenson’s class and he teaches English. In Mr Stevenson class we learnt about R.I.S.E. R.I.S.E stands for
Respect
Integrity
Success
rEsponsibility. Next Mr Stevenson told us to pick one and write a quote about it. My quote said this “Success is important to me because I want to be successful in my education, sports and in any way I can.”  Next we made a poster in google drawing and we had to put photos around it. the bell rang and we had to go to our next class room. Our next class room was Maths with Mr Lee

When we were inside Mr Lee’s class we sat down at watched a video about coordinates. Next Mr Lee gave us a sheet of coordinates and then we had to make an alien head by making coordinates. After he gaves us a site and it was a game and the game was called Billy bug. Billy bug is a coordinates game. After maths was finished we went back into the auditorium and had lunch.
After lunch we all went to our last class. Our last class was Science with Ms Smallwood. In science we made ice cream in a resealable bag. First we had to grab a big wet resealable bag and put some ice inside. Next we had to get a small resealable bag and put half a cup of milk. Then we put one quarter of a cup of salt. Then we put three quarters of vanila. Later when we finished we put the small bag into the big bag and shook it around for 5 minutes. When the 5 minutes was up we took the small bag out and the ice cream was frosty. We tried it out all all of ours tasted salty. When the bell rang we went back into the auditorium to get some prizes

In the auditorium there were prizes for each group. The prizes were a Wireless printer and a Bag.

It felt amazing doing somethings that college students do.

MADD: Personalities

Personalities

Today on the 29th of April rooms 9 and 10 went into room 11 for another session of M.A.D.D. Todays lesson was about everyone's personalities. When we sat down on the mat and Petia told us to give a brief recap on what we learnt last time we were with him and we learnt about skills and talents. The difference between those are skills are what you learn and talent is what you are born with.

Later on when we finished about our last session, Petia talked about different personalities and how someone. Next Petia drew shapes on a soft chalk board. The shapes were a square, rectangle, triangle, circle and a squiggle. After Petia drew the shapes he told us to pick a shape and then told us to split up into our groups, I was in squares.

When we go into our groups Petia gave us a little piece of paper and on it, it had we had to read it on our paper it had
Square

Hard working
Don’t like change
Don’t like to be disturbed/distracted and bothered
there were plenty more but I forgot. Petia told us to choose a leader Lennyx was our leader for squares, Joseph was the leader for rectangles, Siosifa was the leader for circles, Keti was the leader for triangles and Fusi was the leader for squiggles. Squares stands for Hard Working, rectangle stands for experience, circles stands for caring, triangle means leadership and squiggles stands for creativity.

After we finished, Petia did a drawing and it was Batman while he was drawing he played Shake It Off by Taylor Swift.

A.N.Z.A.C Remembrance Ceremony Summary

A.N.Z.A.C Remembrance Ceremony Summary

Today I learnt that being in the Army is very intense. Lieutenant Geoffrey Cox one of the soldiers who fought in Northern Ireland came to our school for our Anzac remembrance ceremony, which was held in front of our school. After that all the classes had to put down a cross to remember the soldiers that fought in World War I & II. Lieutenant Geoffrey said some words and some of them were “ 10 soldiers would go to war 3 will die 6, would be wounded & 1 would come back with no injuries.”

Later on as Lieutenant Geoffrey Cox was saying some of the poem Lest we Forget by Laurence Binyon we had to repeat after him, “They shall grow not , as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.” that poem was written on September 1914.

Then we played the last post and stood quietly as it was happening. When it was finished we had to go back to our class, but rooms 7,9 & 10 had to go to the hall and ask Lieutenant Geoffrey some questions.
We asked him many questions and then headed off back to class.

World War I & World War II Reflection

World War I started because the assassination of Franz Ferdinand an Archduke Austrian Prince. The Turkish soldiers tried to convince Australia and New Zealand to surrender they said "Surrender this isn't your fight, Great Britain is getting you to do their dirty work for them". The war had happened in many places. These are the places they fought in Europe, Africa Asia and the Middle east.

The Second World War started because Germany had done an unnecessary attack on Poland. Great Britain and France teamed up and declared war on Germany after Adolf Hitler refused to stop the invasion on Poland. World War II ended in 1945 during Summer. An estimation of 50 million people lost their life's

Term 1 Holidays 2015

During the term 1 holidays I was training for athletics. The athletics training was for going down to Hamilton and competing in interprovincials. Interprovincials is when provincials from all around New Zealand meet together and have fun competing against each other. 11 athletes in each provincial were selected. The grades were 12/13. It was held in Hamilton over the Easter weekend. The teams travels to Hamilton on Good Friday and returned on Easter Monday:
The provincials that were competing were
  • Auckland
  • Wellington
  • Canterbury
  • BoP Waikato
  • Northland
  • Southland
  • Tasman
  • Counties Manukau
  • Taranaki
There were plenty more but I can’t remember them.

The Auckland team left at Mt Smart Stadium in a bus precisely at 10:00 am. When we arrived at the stadium we hopped off the bus and took our training gear and inside the stadium. The stadium was called Porritt Athletics Stadium. First we went around as a team for a warm up lap. Next we did some dynamic stretches and headed off to practice on of our field events.

After we finished training we had our team photo and had lunch. Straight after we finished lunch went to the movies and watched Fast & Furious 7 or Cinderella. Most of us went to watch Fast & Furious 7.

Later on we headed to where we were staying, we were staying at Hamilton boys. Our team had our own dorm to share and we had to buddy up with someone because it was two per room. We had our own tv room, kitchen, showers and toilets.

During the two days of athletics it was fun and I met new people from different provincials and had fun with me fellow teammates.

When the Interprovincials finished we had to go back and get ready for the Prizegiving.
3rd Place went to Auckland 2nd Place went to Wellington and 1st place went to Canterbury. Prizegiving finished and then there was a disco I was very tired and sore because I was chanting as loud as I could.

It felt good representing Auckland because I have been living in Auckland for my whole life.

Malama Honua

On 26 of March 2015 every school in the Tamaki cluster went down to Pt England Beach to welcome and meet a boat that sailed all the way from Hawaii to New Zealand. On there boat there were no engines on the boat. All they used was the boat was a sail and a huge paddle at the back of the boat to move. Once they arrived they all came to the sand and standed there and that when were were singing and doing actions to the song called E OHO then we sang He Hono re and  then NGA WAKA. After we sang the songs we listened to them talk and then we stood up and shock there hands on the sand then we back up to wait for a drink then headed of back to school.

It was great meeting them because I have never met lost of Hawaiian's in my life.

Kiwi Can Relfection

Two weeks ago we had Kiwi Can and it was up on the field and we did a activity called code breaker, there were only 2 teams. Each team had to step on a hula hoop there was a certain letter you had to get and there were only 9 hula hoops. If you get the incorrect letter another person in the other team gets a try. At the end my team won the challenge others. The code was Many Hands Can Make Lights Work. Kiwi Can has been really enjoyable and fun this term.

Maths

Yesterday, the group I was in had done a maths problem. The Maths problem was, Piri, Maia and Ollie are planning to make pikelets for afternoon tea. The recipe needs 3/4 cup of milk to make a batch of 25 pikelets. How many cups will they need to make 100 pikelets?
This is my working out.

If you subtract 1/4 from the first batch and add it into the second batch and repeat it to the third and fourth batch it will equal 3 wholes/cups

Term 1 Reflection

During Term 1 of 2015 Room 10 and I did some wonderful things as a class and with the whole school.

A few weeks ago the year 7' s and 8 ' s of The whole Tamaki Cluster went down to Collin Maiden Park for a Cricket tournament. Mr. Nath was the teacher who took us down and who was looking after us over there. We only had 8 overs, players, every time you get caught out or the bowler hits the wickets or a run out you will lose 3 runs. Each player has 1 over ( 6 balls ) to bowl. Two batsmen go up and they'll each get 1 over then you'll stop and change. We all felt nervous when we played game. We played 5 games and lost only one. When the Tournament was over we came 1st Overall. We were so proud of ourselfs we were all tired and dehydrated.

My favourite part about this term is technology because we use a piece wood and actual tools. It is very fun because we are still doing our project. First we have to get a pencil and draw a design on a piece of paper and it has to have a joint . Next you draw all the details that you want on your project and then you show the teacher our teachers name was Mr. Gundy. My project is a Boat and I am almost finished it. The Tools we use are a Backed saw, Marking Guage, Tri Square, Ruler, Chisel, Mallet, Vice and a Bench hook. We each get a a thick piece of wood.

These are some of the things we have done this term.

MADD Diary

01| 04 | 15

Today the Tuesday the first of April we went down to the hall for another session of MADD workshop. Today we were talking about Skills and Talent. Petia our teacher for MADD he told us talent is what you are born with and skill is what you practice to get right. He also talked about Sonny Bill he is always the first one to training and the last one to leave training.

Petia split us up into four groups, I was in the fourth group. We did a skit and it was based on wrestling and we were playing this game WWE2K15.  I was a player and and my name was Roman Reigns I was controlled by my friend Ilalio. Our skit was about one of the players not reading the rules with his friends. He said he already knew the rules but then he gets disqualified for grabbing the steel chair and hitting the other wrestler with it. His friends in his team started to hate him.

Next Petia did some chalk art, that was our last activity he was drawing Wonder Woman he made it look like she was standing in the wind because her hair was blown to the side . We all got to go and see it he let us have the picture it is cool because we can add it to our collection in Mrs raj's office it it is going to be on display in our class next term.
